Sorry I haven’t written in awhile but my life has become quite complicated in a good way though!
So I have this guy and he’s been in my life since about March and I’m really, really happy. His name is Ralph and here is his picture…
isn’t he cute….
So we’re getting really close and I can’t wait to see where we go next. He’s changing my life and in an awesome way.
As for college this semester I came out with a 2.96 GPA and that was because I got a C- in this one art class I was taking which I don’t understand how I got and am going to find out when I go back to classes in spring. But I received A’s and B’s in all my others which thankfully saved my GPA overall. I’m aiming for a 3.3 at least when I graduate I’m at a 3.1 right now.
I also plan to address other issues here in a week or so so please check back just wanted to make this quick and I hope everyone had a great holiday!
So it’s been awhile… like a long while since I posted. I should probably elaborate on the contents of the post prior to this before heading into normal content as some people who have read my blog questioned me on it. Not to point out any names or anything, that post was directed at the people of a site I used to run awhile ago. There was an issue that was not good that ended quite badly. A lot of people were hurt in different ways by an email circulated regarding an issue which should have never been shared with anyone. I chose to completely vacate the site following a blatant attack on my best friend who was in no way defended by anyone save for me. I can’t work with people who are that mean both to write what was said to her and also those who did not say anything in her defense or chastise the person who sent her the message. That was the final straw and I cut ties. I have better things to do then sit around dealing with this crap. I have real life stuff that is more important such as depression issues, financial issues, college, work, a new car, graduation, internship hunting, my move to Los Angeles next year, and these are just a few things in my life. So moving on…
In other news Evey has a vet appointment today. She’s been feeling a bit under the weather and is showing mild signs of flea issues. I figured with the weather being so cold here she would have been spared this late in the year but I think one more dose of Advantage will take care of that, both for her and the Baby that is. I’ll get some at the vet today.
I can’t wait until next week we have the whole thing off for Fall Break/Thanksgiving and KFC is closed on Thanksgiving to boot, bonus! I’ll be spending most of the time working and doing the bulk of my Web Programming final project. I did pick my classes for next semester and will be taking 19 credit hours. One class is 4 credits but it’s an Audio Class with Laura so I should do well. I also have 5 others. After this coming semester and the one class I’m taking during winter semester (which I’m still debating between two options) I’ll only have 17 credit hours left to graduate. Which means that elusive last semester during fall . I might take a class during summer to so that I’ll only have to worry about 14 credits instead. I could push all my credits into summer but getting financial aid in summer is a bitch so that’s not a good option for me. I don’t want to rack up too much in loans I have to pay back because I still have my Master’s degree which is much more expensive fund and would rather save the bulk of my loans for that.
Well I’ve rambled enough but I’ll post again soon.
Change is a natural way of life, and change comes in all sorts of ways. Sometimes they are good and the method they’re delivered in is good but sometimes they are bad. Today was a day in which there was a huge change in my life and it’s method of delivery was not good. A lot of people got hurt and it hurt me too much to bear. I know this seems like a random post and a short one but it is needed.
To those who were hurt by this change I’m sorry, more sorry than you’ll ever know but to those who caused this change while I respect your viewpoints I cannot agree with the manner in which it was delivered. I’m sorry but this is the end for me in a lot of ways.
Okay so I’ve been sick since late Wednesday night. I blame it all on the hand sanitizer dispensers they’ve installed all over campus. I should probably elaborate. With the threat of “swine flu” integral to all our lives the campus decided to spend money on a series of hand sanitizer dispensers which have been appropriately placed beside every door in every building. While I can sympathize to a point is the amount of these really necessary? For instance in the Sheldon Lab here they have two of them three feet apart from each other! That’s a little much! It’s not like there’s going to be some mad dash for the hand sanitizer dispensers or something. I’ll have to take a photo of those because they are just too funny.
Needless to say I find it insanely odd that I became sick not more than 5 hours after the little buggers started appearing in McEwen Hall. Therefore I blame my entire illness on their existence.
In other news my TV Production of “Strange Haven” is taking off nicely! There seems to be a lot of interest and I’ll be emailing the individuals who signed up Sunday for a meeting on Wednesday evening. That’s really all I have for now but will post back when I have more news on the TV show or the imminent demise of the dispensers.
Okay so the last few days I’ve been noticing things that really confuse me and I’m finding I’m asking myself “why”? all the time. I don’t know if it’s just a poignant time in human stupidity (you know like a harvest moon would be) or if I’ve just been oblivious to life. Philosophical points aside I’ve decided to start a list of things that “make my head hurt” Right now I’ll list several but as I post on other dates I’ll list others so without further adieu…
Things That Make My Head Hurt the List
#1. When you ask people in the drive-thru at Taco Bell “would you like mild, hot or fire sauce?” and they respond with “medium”. Grr…
#2. When your brother’s dumbass friend shows up at the house with a homemade tattoo and proceeds to tell you he did it with sharpie ink rather than indian ink. *sigh*
#3. How a college campus has 2000 reported cases of “flu like symptoms” and automatically it’s classed as swine flu. Not giving any thought to the fact that it might just be changing weather patterns.
#4. When you go to board an elevator and see a random hand sanitiser dispenser (like the kind soap comes out of in a public restroom) sitting next to it and every other door in the building.
#5. Internet Explorer… it ruins every webdesigner’s life (so does Comic Sans). *Bangs Head on Wall*
So I came home from class today after reeling from an allergic reaction from tomatoes to find my most favourite podcast back up and running after over a year! Squee!!!
My radio show “Strange Haven”’s format was based loosely on the news structure of “Mysterious Universe” which I had been a long time fan since like the 3rd episode that aired almost 4 years ago. This podcast hosted by the great Benjamin Grundy (and now cohosted with Aaron Wright) narrowcasts out of Sydney Australia and follows the latest news in Paranormal and unexplained research (which is what Strange Haven did). When this show went off the air I was heartbroken. I loved it a lot and it was often my shopping companion which I listened to on my iPod in stores and walking the campus. I even paid for their exclusive content and am planning on purchasing the DVD set of all the old shows that is now on sale.
So if you like this sort of thing and would love to check out their podcast visit the link in my sidebar under “awesome sites”.
Also I’d like to mention that I’m planning on changing my theme here again to something more web browser friendly. I’ve noticed on lower res screens that there is image rendering issues and part of that has to do with new wordpress versions. Also this theme is not widget ready and I’m finding that a lot of the things I want to do on the site (yes I’m going to start finally working on the site) I want to be widget capable for a more interactive experience. So do bear with me as I change things up around here.
Veering away from college at the moment I thought I’d take tonight to share an awesome video that came across my TV set and just had to post for everyone. First though a little background on it.
In short I’m stoked over the Rock Band: Beatles Edition. I’ve been catching the commercials and checking out the graphics and I’m totally wired for it. I love the fact that Rock Band made replica instruments for all the parts but if I decide to go all out and load the set up it’s going to put me back $500! It may have to be a slow build. I don’t normally buy or play video games (computer games yes but even that is sparingly) so when one comes out I really like I get excited and this looks totally awesome. However that’s not the point of this post the video below is! To the video editors that created this and the post production team responsible you ROCK! Enjoy!
So the semester began this week and I’ve been so busy I haven’t had time to write a blasted thing! Well here I am to do a quick summarize. Last Saturday I went to the bookstore and picked up all of my texts and my new iMac computer! Ooh I love it so much! As soon as I can get the damn photos to resize I’ll post pictures for everyone. My class schedule for the semester is a bit eclectic but so far it looks to be a smooth semester. Here’s how it looks…
Interactive Art- MW 8-10:20AM 3 credits
History of Christianity II – MWF 11AM-11:50AM 3 credits
Multimedia Integrations – MW 12-1:50AM 3 credits
3D Animation – MW 6-8:20PM 3 credits
Web Programming I – T/TR 12-1:50PM 3 credits
Desktop Video – F 3-5:20PM (10/23-11/20) 1 credit
Yeah as you can all tell I have loads on Mondays and Wednesdays. I didn’t plan it this way it just sort of fell together like this based on my needs. My books were over $350 for the semester but after a few classes I was able to take two of them back that I didn’t need and so received $145 of it back. The classes seem a lot smoother this semester than my horrific last semester and I should be able to easily bring my GPA back up to a 3.3 (it’s still above a 3.0 but not to my linking) Three of these courses are A’s I’m sure and one I think I’ll be able to pull a B out of the last one is up in the air. Who knows though I may surprise myself.
I’m am making it through everything slowly but surely. I’ve had a rough week though and so I’m heading to bed. I’ll try to post some more details this weekend sometime.
I’ve often had a fear of unexplained death, I mean who doesn’t fear that? You’re just minding your own business and then all of a sudden *poof*– you’re dead! Wow that has to suck. Little did I know that my work place would become a player in a dangerous case involving natural gas.
So here I am at work Friday night. I had just come back from break and was situated in the drive-thru as usual. I’d felt fine before but now 45 minutes later… Not so much. I was really lightheaded and I felt like I was going to fall asleep. I’m standing in my spot taking orders and wondering how I went from feeling just fine to feeling nauseous and super tired in less than an hour.
So I walked over to Nicole, the manager on shift and told her honestly “I don’t feel well”. I didn’t want to come off as a complainer so I wanted to be sure something was amiss before I mentioned it. It’s that moment that she says “that’s ironic because I keep smelling gas”. That really caught me offguard, I figured it was the heat or a stomach bug. She told me to sit down and not long after, when she realized I wasn’t getting any better and others were complining of lightheadedness, she pulled me off drive-thru and I worked on other things.
Another half hour goes by and I’m not feeling any better and that’s when the nausea hit full force. I don’t think I need to spell out the rest of the details but that was when she told me to go home.
About an hour after leaving the headache began to subside and my stomach righted itself. The next morning I headed to work and immediatly get quizzed about my illness and asked how I was feeling. There were trucks from the gas company as well as corporate outside. It seems that after I left it got really bad and Nicole had called the fire department.
To conclude th story they did find a leak, actally they found three. And the reason I had gotten so sick was because the biggest one was on the roof and since gas weighs more than oxygen it was getting pushed down the air conditioning vents and one of those is directly above the drive-thru. No doubt there was probably carbon monoxide involved which is why I felt tired. I’m just glad they found them.
Okay so I recently opted to change my phone service after 3 years to a new carrier. First off I should probably point out that to keep on my minimilistic “college” budget (which means I work REALLY hard to keep from having ZERO bills of any sort) I use prepaid carriers only. The problem is that my other carrier (like most prepaid services) gave me very little for my dollar. I was using Verizon which was nice because of one perk, unlimited nights and unlimited calls to other verizon customers. Since that’s the big carrier here in Western NY, it meant not wasting my money as often, this was the only reason I stayed with them. Well a few months ago I was doing research into a better plan thinking there had to be something out there. I didn’t want much just my unlimited nights as always, some decent daytime minutes so I could make calls W/O the parnoia and a small amount of text messaging since so many people kept messaging me from work. Enter the king of prepaid, Virgin Mobile who had all of this and more for the top off price of $60.00 a month.
My new service now with them gives me 400 anytime minutes with unlimited nights AND weekends starting at 7PM, unlimited text messaging, IM and email and 50MB of web all for that low cost. I know people with contract phones who pay more for less. The best part is that there is NO CONTRACT! My plans are fully customizable so if one month I have to take off extra time for term papers or a nasty flu bug and I can’t afford a huge bill I turn off or downsize those services and then turn them on again the following month. And the best part is is that if I have trouble paying a bill do to incident they cover my bill for 90 days.
Now comes my rant (see title)… okay so Virgin Mobile isn’t AT&T or Verizon (it does however use Sprint towers so it gets good coverage) and the company isn’t exactly shelling out Blackberrys but the nifty text messaging designed cell phone the X-TC does a great job of handling it all. It has a slide out full QWERTY keyboard, real music ringtones, apps and a camera just to name a few features. So why do people rip on it so bad online? I have to admit I was bit concerned over switching my carrier because of those reviews. I knew I didn’t want any other phone but this one because of it’s bang for the buck so I was kind of upset in finding that after I had it running a few days with no issues that these people are still shelling out bad reviews. This includes tech mojos who think that only Blackberrys and iPhones are the only “decent” phone for human kind. Granted I’d kill for a Blackberry Storm that ran on Virgin (they have them in Canada) but for all that I get for $60.00 and no contract? I’m not going to complain! At least I’m not fighting with my carrier every month about why my bill is so high because a certain feature kicked in I didn’t want.
What I’m getting at is it’s a prepaid phone (and probably the best one out there for the cost with the features) don’t expect to get a contacted experience with it. All these reviews were about what the X-TC was lacking. People want to get it all for nothing and it doesn’t work that way. Be grateful you can get such awesome stuff for so little I know I’m not the one complaining.
